At The Ranch for Kids, children live in a family setting with house parents and other children overcoming FASD and RAD. This allows children to learn effective communication and appropriate behavior in a peer group facing the same challenges. This rare environment helps kids better understand themselves and others.
The Ranch for Kids program participants live, complete chores and attend school at our Rexford Lodge located in the Tobacco Valley just a few miles outside of Eureka, Montana. The ranch is a short drive to natural wonders such as Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. Lush and beautiful, the Tobacco Valley is cradled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and offers hiking, swimming, horseback riding, skiing, boating and many more exceptional outdoor activities.
Our natural environment gives the children a chance to grow and refocus their emotions into practical everyday activities such as chores, schooling, and outdoor recreation. This environment compliments our common sense, relaxed approach and sound moral base that contribute to building a successful lifestyle.
Children in the program participate daily in adult supervised chores; teaching them how to embrace a safe and healthy lifestyle. Learning to help cook, clean, do housekeeping and laundry are just some of the tasks associated with maintaining a home. There are always plenty of opportunities for our kids to gain critical life skills in the many tasks required to run our program. Our projects are continuous and varying such as grounds work, maintenance, and daily tasks involving their environment.
Every child is encouraged to develop their own personal talents and an awareness that each has something significant to contribute to make the world a better place.
Strong work ethics are instilled in the kids as they work alongside the staff members on various projects including home improvement and landscaping. The skills needed to accomplish a given task are taught and often carry over into their adult lives.
Ranch for Kids is a Christ-centered, non-denominational ministry. Children are encouraged to attend church and spend time developing their spiritual life. Small groups and Bible studies are also available on site as well as church services in our local community which foster further spiritual growth.
Both physical and mental, there is a wide range of recreational activities for the children to participate in at the ranch. Summer activities include fishing, swimming, soccer, dodge ball, horseback riding, hiking, and camping. Winter activities include skiing, ice skating, and sledding. Arts, crafts, music, expressive writing and theatrical performances are encouraged and promoted. Horsemanship classes are available from several area businesses for students who like to participate. we do not privately contract these classes. Parents must make arrangements for their children.
